I am an idea person. I love it when a new seed of possibility is planted in my brain. The "what if" wheels start turning and I begin to dream. Sometimes those ideas are turned into songs, sometimes they morph into a new project or adventure, and sometimes those ideas remain in the dream stage for a very long time.
I am trying to steward my ideas better. I have learned, sometimes the hard way, that when an idea is unleashed before it is mature enough to be pushed out of the nest of my head space, it isn't ready to fly. Not even close. I'm also learning that when the only true Creator plants an idea in my brain, it may not even be a complete idea yet. It might be a fragment of an idea; a glimpse into something that is soon to be revealed. And when that is the case, waiting for the whole idea is hard. I don't like waiting. I'm also trying to steward my idea partnerships well. I really like being with other idea people. They are dreamers too, and they long to see ideas grow or fly out of the nest, just like I do. But I don't want to be the kind of person who carelessly tosses out ideas to just anyone at any random moment. That's dangerous and can be quite painful. I want to treat my ideas and the ideas of others as sacred gifts, given to us by the Giver of all good ideas. They deserve to be handled with care, prayed over, nurtured, resourced well, and then, when the time is right, turned into something amazing. I get giddy just thinking about that process. So here's to the idea people and their big ideas. May we all be found faithful to courageously, and sometimes cautiously, steward them well.
